How To Get off a ski lift
Date Created: 5 May 2009.
I thought this would be kinda fun to write seeing as I have had many failed attempts at getting off a ski lift… it is actually quite difficult to do gracefully so if you would like a bit of grace then continue to read on.

- Make sure you are ready – i.e: have your hat, goggle and gloves on. If you try and do this mid-departing then you are seriously going to embarrass yourself.
- Make sure you have a good hold of both your poles. However, do not put on the wrist straps – it really doesn’t help.
- Point your poles towards the outside of the ski-lift so that they are not facing the other person whom you’re ‘lifting’ with. If there are 3 of you then hold your poles between your knees – now, that is tricky.
- Make sure you old the tips of your poles fairly high cos if you don’t then they’re just going to catch on the snow at the station area and that is just going to trip you up (and that isn’t desired).
- Keep pointing the tips of your poles upwards and hold the bar beside the seat to help with balance (unless you have immaculate balance, which you may) and relax your legs.
- Prepare yourself to stand up like you would normally.
- After your chair has passed over the top of the mound stand up – gently push off the chair.
- Make your way away from the chairlift and then stop – if you don’t, you could end up having someone else glide into you which is rather painful.
